Protesters took to the streets of Istanbul tonight after Turkish election authorities nullified Istanbul’s mayoral election in which an opposition candidate won. Get the latest in our LIVE COVERAGE.

The March 31 Istanbul election for mayor was seen as a major defeat for Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as his A.K.P. party’s candidate, Binali Yildirim, lost to the opposition candidate, Ekrem Imamoglu. After a recount, Imamoglu had been certified the winner, but now election authorities have nullified the election and called a new election in June. It is widely suspected that Erdogan pressured the authorities into nullifying the election.
